The Story Behind Le Bachatie

Le Bachatie was one of the first projects where I started to realize music could become something more than just an experiment.

These weren't the first songs I ever created. Some of my earliest experiments can still be found in the first few videos I uploaded to Instagram. At the time, I was constantly testing new ideas, using Hydrox voice-processing software and digital instruments to create songs. The vocals often sounded robotic and far from natural, but every experiment helped me learn more about songwriting and production.

The idea for this EP came when I returned to taking bachata classes. Week after week, I noticed that dance studios seemed to play the same songs over and over again. One day I asked myself:

What would happen if I made my own bachata songs?

That simple question eventually became Le Bachatie.

Ironically, the title track started as a joke. At the time, I was having dinner at an Indian restaurant with my friend Pollo Carmona. We came up with the idea of writing a bachata song full of double meanings just for fun. What started as a joke unexpectedly became the foundation of the entire project.

Pollo Carmona and I are no longer friends and we don't speak anymore, but he was part of that moment in my life and part of the story behind this EP.

Some of the songs were inspired by everyday situations around me. In particular, there was a couple living nearby who seemed to argue constantly, only to reconcile shortly afterward. Watching that cycle of fights and reunions eventually found its way into some of the stories told throughout the project.

One of the most personal tracks on the EP is "Solo Esta Noche." The song was inspired by a woman I've known for many years. There has always been a certain connection between us, but nothing ever really happened. Life simply took us in different directions. She also has a Brazilian friend, which inspired me to incorporate a few Portuguese vocal lines and choruses into the song, adding another layer to its atmosphere and story.

The dance studio where I take bachata classes also played an important role in shaping the project. People from all over the world come there to dance, and that international atmosphere inspired me to include an English-language song on the EP as well.

Looking back, Le Bachatie represents a transition period in my musical journey. It captures a time when I was still experimenting, still learning, and still figuring out what kind of artist I wanted to become. More than anything, it reminds me that inspiration can come from unexpected places: a dance class, a conversation with a friend, a longtime connection that never became a relationship, a couple arguing next door, or simply being curious enough to try something new.
